Black-hooded Oriole

Oriolus xanthornus (Linnaeus, 1758)

Black-hooded Oriole, Oriolus xanthornus, is a breeding bird of the Oriental Region, from northern India through south-east Asia to Borneo. It belongs to the oriole family and is found in open woodland and cultivated country. The species is most often seen in the tree canopy, where it spends much of its time. Its nest is placed in a tree and holds two eggs. It feeds on insects and fruit, with figs especially important. The black hood is the clearest feature that sets it apart from the Indian golden oriole.
