Black Mannikin, Lonchura stygia, is a waxbill in the family Estrildidae, breeding in the south Trans-Fly of south-western New Guinea. It was described by Stresemann in 1934. In the wild it is recorded from New Guinea, including the stretch from Mandum in Papua to Lake Daviumbu in Papua New Guinea. It is associated with savannas and wetlands, and has also been noted in rice crops. It is often seen in flocks of up to 20 birds.
