Ploceus nigricollis
The Black-necked weaver (Ploceus nigricollis) is a small passerine bird found in sub-Saharan Africa. Males have striking black and yellow plumage, with a distinctive black mask and black neck. Females are more subtly colored with olive-brown upperparts and yellow underparts. These weavers are known for their intricate, flask-shaped nests, which are woven from grass and often suspended from the tips of branches. They are typically found in open woodland, savanna, and grassland areas, often near water sources. Black-necked weavers are social birds, often seen in small flocks foraging for seeds and insects. They are not currently considered at risk and are classified as a species of Least Concern by the IUCN.
