Black Nunbird, Monasa atra, is a bird of north Amazonia in South America, where it occurs in Brazil, French Guiana, Guyana, Suriname and Venezuela. It belongs to the Bucconidae family within the Piciformes. The adult has glossy blue-black upperparts, grey underparts, a white wing band formed by the lesser coverts, and a red bill. Immatures are darker above and browner below. It lives in humid forest, especially along edges, near water and in more open places, and can be found from the lower storey to the canopy.
