Black Robin, Petroica traversi, breeds on Mangere and South East Island in the Chatham Islands, east of South Island, New Zealand. It is a passerine in the Australasian robins, first described by Buller in 1872. The bird is also known as the Chatham Island robin. Its flight ability is reduced compared with mainland relatives, and it was once confined to Little Mangere Island after disappearing from the main Chatham Island group before 1871.
