Leucosticte atrata

The Black Rosy-Finch, scientifically known as Leucosticte atrata, is a small passerine bird found in high-altitude alpine and subalpine areas of western North America. This species is known for its distinctive black plumage, with a rosy-pink wash on the belly and underparts. They have a short, conical bill and a slightly forked tail. Black Rosy-Finches are social birds and often form large flocks, foraging for seeds and insects on the ground or in low vegetation. They breed in rocky areas and cliffs, building cup-shaped nests out of grass, moss, and twigs. This species is well-adapted to cold and harsh environments, with a range extending from Alaska to the mountains of the western United States.
