Black-rumped Flameback, Dinopium benghalense, is a woodpecker of the Indian subcontinent, with its breeding range in the Oriental Region. It is found across the plains of Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, extending east to western Assam valley and Meghalaya, and it also reaches urban areas with tree-lined streets. Its most useful field mark is the combination of a black throat and a black rump, which sets it apart from other golden-backed woodpeckers in the region. It is associated with open forest and cultivated land, and is often seen in pairs or small parties.
