Rhegmatorhina melanosticta
The Black-streaked Puffbird (Rhegmatorhina melanosticta) is a small to medium-sized bird found in the tropical forests of South America. It has a distinctive black streaking on its white underparts, a brownish back, and a large head with a stout bill. This species is known for its unique call, a series of low, guttural notes that carry through the forest understory. Black-streaked Puffbirds primarily feed on insects and small vertebrates, which they capture by perching quietly and making short sallies to catch their prey. They are often found in the midstory and lower levels of dense, humid forests, where they perch motionless for long periods. Their conservation status is currently listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
