Euplectes laticauda
The Black-tailed Bishop is a small passerine bird found in eastern Africa. The male has striking black plumage with bright red and yellow patches on its wings and tail, while the female is more subdued with brown and buff colors. During the breeding season, the male performs elaborate displays to attract a mate, including puffing out his feathers and fluttering his wings. This species is commonly found in grasslands, marshes, and agricultural areas, where it forages for seeds and insects. The Black-tailed Bishop is known for its distinctive call, a series of melodious whistles. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and agricultural intensification pose potential threats to its populations.
