Black-tailed Gull

Larus crassirostris

The Black-tailed Gull (Larus crassirostris) is a medium-sized gull native to East Asia. It has a white body, gray wings, and a distinctive black tail. During the breeding season, its bill turns bright orange-red. These gulls are highly adaptable and can be found in a variety of coastal habitats, including rocky shores, sandy beaches, and estuaries. They are opportunistic feeders, scavenging for food in urban areas and foraging for fish, crustaceans, and insects in the wild. The Black-tailed Gull is known for its raucous calls and complex social behaviors, often nesting in large colonies on offshore islands. While the population is currently stable, threats such as habitat loss and pollution could impact their future.
