Black-tailed Nativehen, Tribonyx ventralis, is a rail found across Australia, apart from the north, south-central areas and Tasmania. It lives beside fresh and brackish water throughout the year and moves nomadically in step with seasonal water supplies. A ground-dwelling bird, it is often seen in small flocks. It has an upright tail and a mostly brownish-grey and green plumage, with pink-orange legs and lower bill, plus bright orange eyes. It is also known for its alarm call, a sharp kak.
