Tityra cayana (Linnaeus, 1766)

Black-tailed Tityra, Tityra cayana, is a passerine of widespread South America, where it is a year-round resident. It belongs to the family Tityridae. The bird is found in forest edges, second growth, plantation shade trees, pantanal and cerrado, as well as terra firme and várzea. It usually occurs below 500 metres, though it can reach 1,100 metres. A notable feature is its robust, short-tailed form with a long bill that ends in a hook, and it has a vestigial ninth primary feather.
