Black-throated Coucal, Centropus leucogaster, is a cuckoo of western and central Africa, breeding across the region and living in dense second growth, forest edges and grassy swamps. It belongs to the family Cuculidae and was described by Leach in 1814. It is the largest member of Centropus. Adults have black head, neck, upper breast and mantle with a violet-blue sheen, rufous-chestnut wings, a black back barred with white, and a black tail with paler bases. The lower breast and belly are white, with rufous on the thighs, flanks and undertail-coverts.
