Trogon rufus
The Black-throated Trogon is a medium-sized bird found in the forests of Central and South America. It has a distinctive black throat and upper breast, with a green back and wings. The belly is pale yellow, and the bill is short and stout. This species is known for its distinctive call, a series of deep, low hoots. Black-throated Trogons are often found perched quietly in the forest canopy, where they feed on insects and small fruits. They play an important role in forest ecosystems as seed dispersers. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss is a potential concern for this species.
