Black-winged Bishop

Euplectes hordeaceus

The Black-winged Bishop is a small passerine bird found in sub-Saharan Africa. The male is known for its striking black plumage with bright red or orange patches on its wings and shoulders, while the female is more subdued with brown and streaked plumage. These birds are often found in open grasslands, marshes, and agricultural areas, where they forage for seeds and insects. During the breeding season, males perform elaborate displays to attract females. The Black-winged Bishop is not currently considered to be at risk, with stable populations throughout its range.
