Metriopelia melanoptera
The Black-winged Ground Dove (Metriopelia melanoptera) is a small dove species found in the Andes of South America. It is characterized by its black wings and white underparts, with a pinkish hue on the breast. These doves are typically found in open grasslands, shrubby areas, and agricultural fields at elevations ranging from 2,000 to 4,000 meters. They forage on the ground for seeds and small insects. The species is known for its distinctive cooing calls and is often seen in pairs or small groups. While not currently assessed by the IUCN, the Black-winged Ground Dove is generally considered to be of Least Concern.
