Black-winged Pratincole, Glareola nordmanni, breeds in the Palearctic saline steppe near water from Ukraine and south-west Russia east to eastern Kazakhstan, and spends the non-breeding season in inland subtropical grassland near water in southern Africa, including eastern Namibia, Botswana and northern South Africa. It is a member of the Glareolidae, within the Charadriiformes. It is a bird of open country and is often found close to water. Its nest site is on the ground, where it lays 2–4 eggs.
