Blackish Antbird

Cercomacroides nigrescens

The Blackish Antbird (Cercomacroides nigrescens) is a small, insectivorous bird found in the understory of humid forests in South America. It has a dark plumage with subtle white speckling on the throat and breast. This species is known for its distinctive vocalizations, often heard before it is seen. It forages by hopping along the forest floor and lower vegetation, searching for insects and small invertebrates. The Blackish Antbird is typically found in dense, tangled vegetation and is known to follow army ant swarms to feed on flushed insects. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation are potential future threats to this species.
