Blackish Nightjar

Nyctipolus nigrescens

The Blackish Nightjar is a nocturnal bird found in South America. It has a cryptic plumage that provides excellent camouflage during the day. This species is known for its distinctive call, a repetitive churring sound that is often heard at dusk and dawn. Blackish Nightjars are primarily insectivorous, feeding on moths, beetles, and other flying insects. They prefer open woodland and savanna habitats, where they roost on the ground during the day. This species is relatively small in size and has a short bill and a wide gape, which aids in catching prey in flight.
