Blackish Tapaculo, Scytalopus latrans, is a passerine in the Rhinocryptidae family that breeds in South America from Colombia to Peru. It was first named by Hellmayr in 1924. The species is associated with the Andes, including both slopes and interior ranges, and is found in the understorey of moist montane forest. It also occurs in Chusquea bamboo, Polylepis scrub, other shrubs, swampy places and second growth. Its breeding range extends through western Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and northern Peru, with a separate Pacific form in southwest Ecuador and northwest Peru.
