Blackstart

Oenanthe melanura

The Blackstart (Oenanthe melanura) is a small passerine bird found in rocky desert habitats of North Africa and the Middle East. This species is known for its striking black and white plumage, with a black head, back, and tail, and a contrasting white belly and wing patches. Blackstarts are adept at foraging for insects and small invertebrates among the rocks and crevices, using their agile and acrobatic flight to capture prey. They are known for their melodious and varied song, which they use to establish territories and attract mates during the breeding season. The Blackstart is not currently considered to be at risk, and its population is believed to be stable.
