Blue-and-white Flycatcher

Rhipidura cyaniceps

The Blue-and-white Flycatcher (Rhipidura cyaniceps) is a small passerine bird found in East Asia. Males have striking blue and white plumage, with a blue crown and wings, white underparts, and a black mask. Females are more subdued in color, with grayish-blue upperparts and paler underparts. These flycatchers inhabit broadleaf forests, often near streams or in mountainous areas. They are known for their agile aerial foraging, catching insects on the wing. The species is migratory, breeding in Japan, Korea, and parts of China, and wintering in Southeast Asia. Despite facing threats from habitat loss and deforestation, the conservation status of the Blue-and-white Flycatcher is currently assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
