Blue-billed White Tern, Gygis candida, lives on tropical oceanic islands from the southern Indian Ocean across to the eastern Pacific. It is a seabird of the family Laridae and was first described by Gmelin in 1789. The bird is known for its blue-based bill, which is black and thick with a sharp tip. Its eyes are dark and narrow, and its legs are slaty blue with yellow or white webs. Young birds resemble adults, but have brown edging on the body and wings and a black bill base.
