Blue-black Grosbeak, Cyanoloxia cyanoides, breeds from se Mexico through Middle America into nw Venezuela and nw Peru. It is a passerine in the Cardinalidae family. The species is placed in Cyanoloxia, and the eastern lowland population was split off as Amazonian Grosbeak. Males are dark blue with paler blue markings on the eyebrows, shoulders and forehead. Females are dark brown, sometimes with a faint reddish wash. It is usually hard to see because it stays in dense vegetation and broadleaf forest edges.
