Blue-black Grosbeak

Cyanoloxia cyanoides

The Blue-black Grosbeak is a striking bird found in South America. The male has deep blue-black plumage with a contrasting bright blue throat and chest. The female is more subdued with brownish-gray plumage. These birds are often found in dense shrubby areas and forest edges, where they forage for seeds, fruits, and insects. They are known for their melodious and varied songs, often heard during the breeding season. The Blue-black Grosbeak is not currently considered to be at risk, but habitat loss and fragmentation could pose future threats to its populations.
