Blue-crowned Parakeet, Thectocercus acuticaudatus, is a parrot of northern, eastern and south-eastern South America. It is found in savanna-like country, woodland and along forest edges, but not in dense humid forest. The species is the only member of its genus. It is known by its blue head and pale bill, and the nominate form shows dull blue on the forehead, crown, cheeks and ear area. The eye is surrounded by a white bare ring, and the upper bill ends in a sharp point. It was described by Vieillot in 1818.
