Blue-naped Chlorophonia

Chlorophonia cyanea

The Blue-naped Chlorophonia is a small passerine bird found in the highland forests of Central and South America. It is known for its vibrant blue plumage on the nape and bright green body. The male has a striking blue crown and nape, while the female has a duller olive-green coloration. These birds are often found foraging in the canopy for fruits and insects. They have a melodious song and are often heard before they are seen. The Blue-naped Chlorophonia is an important seed disperser in its habitat, contributing to the diversity of plant species. Despite being relatively common in its range, habitat loss and fragmentation pose a threat to its populations.
