Blue-spotted Wood Dove, Turtur afer, is a bird in the pigeon and dove family, breeding across Africa from Senegal and Gambia east to Eritrea, Ethiopia and Uganda, and south to Angola, northern South Africa and Mozambique. It is a member of Columbiformes. The bird is known for the blue spotting that gives it its name. First described by Linnaeus in 1766, it is placed in the genus Turtur and has no recognised subspecies. Its range extends through much of Africa south of the Sahel, with a presence in East Africa and a breeding range that reaches into southern parts of the continent.
