Blue-tailed Hummingbird, Saucerottia cyanura, breeds in Middle America from southern Mexico to Costa Rica. It is a hummingbird of semi-open country, including forest edges and clearings, secondary growth, scrub, and shade coffee plantations. In Mexico and Guatemala it occurs from 100 to 1,800 m, while farther south it is found from near sea level to 1,200 m. It was once placed in Amazilia, but most modern classifications now use Saucerottia. Three subspecies are recognised, with the nominate form, S. c. guatemalae and S. c. impatiens.
