Blue-throated Barbet

Psilopogon asiaticus (Latham, 1790)

Megalaimidae — Asian Barbets

Blue-throated Barbet, Psilopogon asiaticus, breeds from north-east Pakistan to central Vietnam and Myanmar, and is a member of the Asian barbets. It is found in the lower Himalayas and across hill country in Southeast Asia, where it lives in lowland and montane forest. It also uses secondary woodland and can occur in towns if fruiting trees are present. Its breeding sites are holes cut into trunks or sloping branches, often several metres above the ground, and old woodpecker nests may be taken over. The species was described by Latham in 1790.
