Blue-throated Piping Guan

Pipile cumanensis

The Blue-throated Piping Guan, scientifically known as Pipile cumanensis, is a large bird native to the tropical forests of South America. It is characterized by its striking blue throat and red wattle, along with a glossy black plumage and a long tail. This species is primarily arboreal, foraging for fruits, seeds, and small invertebrates in the canopy. It is known for its distinctive piping calls that echo through the forest. The Blue-throated Piping Guan plays a significant role in seed dispersal and forest regeneration. However, habitat loss and hunting pose significant threats to its population.
