Chalcomitra adelberti
The Blue-throated Sunbird is a small, colorful bird found in the forests and woodlands of West Africa. This species is known for its striking iridescent plumage, with the male displaying a brilliant blue throat and metallic green and blue upperparts. The female is more subdued, with olive-green upperparts and a pale yellow throat. Blue-throated Sunbirds primarily feed on nectar from flowers, using their slender, curved bills to extract the sweet liquid. They also consume small insects and spiders as a source of protein. These sunbirds are often observed flitting among flowering trees and shrubs, emitting high-pitched calls as they forage for food.
