Blue-throated Toucanet

Aulacorhynchus wagleri

The Blue-throated Toucanet, scientifically known as Aulacorhynchus wagleri, is a stunning medium-sized toucan found in the mountainous regions of southern Mexico and Central America. This species is recognized by its vibrant green plumage, red undertail coverts, and a distinctive blue throat patch. Blue-throated Toucanets are primarily frugivorous, feeding on a variety of fruits and occasionally insects. They are often found in humid montane forests, where they can be observed foraging in the canopy. These toucanets play a vital role in seed dispersal and contribute to the overall health of their forest ecosystems.
