Dacelo leachii
The Blue-winged Kookaburra is a large, terrestrial kingfisher native to northern Australia and southern New Guinea. It is known for its distinctive laughing call, which is often heard at dawn and dusk. This species has a striking appearance, with a predominantly white head and underparts, and a blue wing and tail. It inhabits a variety of forested habitats, including woodlands, savannas, and riverine areas. Blue-winged Kookaburras primarily feed on insects, small reptiles, and occasionally small mammals. They are known for their strong pair bonds and cooperative breeding behavior. While not currently classified as threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation pose potential threats to this species.
