Blyth's frogmouth

Anorrhinus austeni

The Blyth's frogmouth (Anorrhinus austeni) is a medium-sized bird found in the forests of Southeast Asia. It is known for its distinctive appearance, with a large head, wide gape, and cryptic plumage that provides excellent camouflage among the dense foliage. These nocturnal birds are primarily insectivorous, feeding on a variety of insects and small invertebrates. They are known for their unique call, which is a series of low hoots and whistles. Blyth's frogmouths are typically monogamous and form long-term pair bonds. They are often observed perching motionless on tree branches during the day, relying on their excellent camouflage to avoid detection by predators.
