Tyrannidae — Tyrant Flycatchers, Calyptura

Boat-billed Flycatcher, Megarynchus pitangua, is a tyrant flycatcher of Middle and South America, breeding from Mexico to north-eastern Argentina. It occurs in wooded and forested places across that span, including open savanna, clearings with scattered trees, plantations, forest edges, gallery forest, mature secondary growth and shaded gardens. It is the only species in its genus. Its most notable feature is its long, broad, heavy, arched bill, which gives the bird its name. The sexes are alike, and the species is also known from Trinidad and has been recorded in Chile as a vagrant.
