Rallus semiplumbeus
The Bogota Rail (Rallus semiplumbeus) is a small to medium-sized bird species found in the wetlands and marshes of the high Andes in Colombia. It is characterized by its distinctive slate-gray plumage, with white and black markings on the face and throat. This secretive bird is known for its skulking behavior, often staying hidden in dense vegetation. Bogota Rails are primarily insectivorous, foraging for invertebrates and small amphibians in their marshland habitat. Due to habitat loss and degradation, the Bogota Rail faces threats to its population, and its conservation status is currently listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN.
