Bornean Shortwing

Bornean Shortwing, Brachypteryx erythrogyna, is a bird of the Muscicapidae family found in montane northern Borneo. It was described by Sharpe in 1888. It is associated with forest in the mountains of Borneo, and its range is confined to that island. The species was once treated as part of the white-browed shortwing, now the Javan Shortwing, before being recognised separately. That wider group was divided into five species after genetic evidence and differences in plumage and vocalisation showed the populations were distinct.
