Botteri's sparrow

Peucaea botterii

Botteri's sparrow is a small, secretive bird found in the arid grasslands and scrublands of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It is characterized by its buffy and gray plumage, with a distinct pale eyebrow and a streaked breast. This species is known for its distinctive song, a series of clear, whistled notes. Botteri's sparrows forage on the ground for seeds and insects, often remaining hidden in dense vegetation. They build their cup-shaped nests low in shrubs or grasses. Due to habitat loss and degradation, this species faces conservation concerns in some parts of its range.
