Bourke's Parrot

Neopsephotus bourkii (Gould, 1841)

Bourke's Parrot, Neopsephotus bourkii, is a parrot of western and eastern inland Australia, breeding from western Western Australia through south-central Queensland and north-central New South Wales. It was first described by Gould in 1841 and is the only member of its genus. A small species, it is about 19 cm long and around 45 g in weight. It is also known by several other names, including blue-vented parrot, sundown parrot and pink-bellied parrot. The bird was named for Sir Richard Bourke, who was Governor of New South Wales from 1831 to 1837.
