Brace's Emerald

Riccordia bracei (Lawrence, 1877)

Brace's Emerald, Riccordia bracei, is an extinct hummingbird from New Providence in the Bahamas, within North America. It was known from the main island only, and the single specimen that established it came from near Nassau. The bird had a short, slightly straight black bill and black legs and feet. Its back and head were slaty blue, with a black sheen on the back and a white eyebrow behind the eye. The throat was white, the belly white with black and yellow markings, and the wings blue with white bars. The tail was blackish and the undertail area white with pale yellow edges.
