Brassy-breasted Tanager, Tangara desmaresti, is a bird of the family Thraupidae that breeds in south-east Brazil. It is found in subtropical or tropical moist montane forest. The species was first described by Vieillot in 1819 from a Brazilian specimen. Its scientific name honours Anselme Gaëtan Desmarest, and the genus name Tangara comes from a Tupí word meaning dancer.
