Brehm's Tiger Parrot

Psittacella brehmii

The Brehm's Tiger Parrot (Psittacella brehmii) is a strikingly colored parrot species found in the mountainous forests of New Guinea. It is characterized by its vibrant plumage, with a predominantly green body, red belly, and distinct yellow and blue markings on the head and wings. These small parrots are known for their agile flight and acrobatic movements as they forage for fruits, seeds, and insects in the dense forest canopy. Brehm's Tiger Parrots are typically found in montane forests at elevations of 1,200 to 3,000 meters, where they form small flocks and communicate with high-pitched calls. Due to habitat loss and potential hunting pressure, their conservation status is currently listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN.
