Bridled Tern

Onychoprion anaethetus

The Bridled Tern (Onychoprion anaethetus) is a seabird found in tropical and subtropical oceans worldwide. It is known for its striking appearance, with a black cap and distinctive white 'bridle' pattern around its eyes. This bird is highly adapted for aerial foraging, often seen skimming the water's surface in search of small fish and squid. Bridled Terns nest in colonies on remote islands, laying a single egg in a shallow scrape on the ground. They are highly vocal, with a variety of calls used for communication within the colony. Despite their widespread distribution, Bridled Terns face threats from habitat destruction and disturbance at nesting sites.
