Bronze-winged Woodpecker Colaptes aeruginosus is a woodpecker of Middle America, breeding in north-eastern Mexico. It belongs to the family Picidae and was described by Malherbe in 1862. It is treated as a separate form from the broader golden-olive woodpecker group. The name has been applied to the subspecies C. r. aeruginosus, which is found in eastern Mexico from Tamaulipas to Veracruz. Its placement within the group has been uncertain, and it has not been part of a genetic study.
