Molothrus aeneus
The Bronzed Cowbird is a small, stocky blackbird found in the southern United States, Mexico, and Central America. Males have a glossy black plumage with iridescent green and purple hues, while females are brown with streaked underparts. They are brood parasites, laying their eggs in the nests of other bird species. Bronzed Cowbirds are often found in open habitats such as grasslands, agricultural fields, and forest edges. They forage on the ground for seeds and insects. Despite their widespread distribution, their populations are declining due to habitat loss and fragmentation. Conservation efforts are needed to protect their habitats and nesting sites.
