Brown-backed Honeyeater, Ramsayornis modestus, is a honeyeater of the mangrove-lined coasts of New Guinea and Cape York Peninsula in north-east Queensland, Australia. It is patchily distributed along the New Guinea coast and on nearby islands, and in Australia it occurs in the far north of Queensland. Its habitat includes subtropical and tropical mangrove forest, as well as other coastal places close to water. It is a small bird with a brown back, streaked underparts, and a red bill. It was described by Gray in 1858.
