Brown-banded Puffbird

Notharchus ordii

The Brown-banded Puffbird, scientifically known as Notharchus ordii, is a medium-sized bird found in the tropical forests of Central and South America. This species is known for its distinctive brown and white plumage, with a broad black band across the chest. It has a large head and a stout, slightly curved bill, which it uses to catch insects and small vertebrates. Brown-banded Puffbirds are often observed perched motionless on branches, waiting to pounce on their prey. They inhabit dense, humid forests and are typically found in the mid to upper levels of the canopy. Their call is a series of low, guttural notes. Although not currently classified, their population is believed to be stable, and they are not considered to be at immediate risk.
