Brown-breasted Kingfisher

Halcyon gularis

The Brown-breasted Kingfisher (Halcyon gularis) is a medium-sized kingfisher found in the forests and woodlands of Southeast Asia. It has a distinctive brown and white plumage, with a bright blue and rufous chest. This species is known for its distinctive call, a series of loud, rapid, and high-pitched notes. The Brown-breasted Kingfisher primarily feeds on small fish, insects, and crustaceans, which it catches by diving from a perch into the water. It nests in burrows dug into the riverbanks or in termite mounds. Despite being relatively widespread, its population is declining due to habitat loss and degradation.
