Brown-capped Rosy Finch, Leucosticte australis, breeds in the southern Rocky Mountains of North America, in the mountain peaks of the central United States. It is a finch of alpine snowfields and can also be seen at feeders in winter. The bird has a brown head, back and breast, with pink on the belly and rump and some pink on the wings and tail. The male shows stronger pink than the female. The forehead is black or grey-brown, and the bill changes from yellow in winter to black in summer.
